Small U.S. ISPs Make Extra Cash from Malicious DNS Servers
Small Internet service providers (ISPs) in the U.S. have been earning extra cash off clueless users through malicious DNS servers that adjust data inflight using third-party proxies. These servers secretly interrupt and redirect search queries or mistyped URLs -- usually brand names -- that are entered on a Web browser’s address bar. Users are taken directly to the brand’s webpage, bypassing the customary Web search results page.
