New SolidDNS™ 4.1.816 Supports Anycast for Reliable DNS Networks
Dulles, Virginia – October 18, 2010 – InfoWeapons Inc. announces the release of SolidDNS™ 4.1.816, which features IPv4 anycast routing support, custom logging and secondary zone import, among others.
The anycast routing scheme adds another high availability option for the latest SolidDNS™, which administrators can use to design a more robust and reliable DNS infrastructure. This implementation uses the standard Border Gateway Protocol, the same protocol used in root servers. With anycast, you can assign a single IP address to several SolidDNS™ appliances, enabling any of them to act as authoritative server for a particular zone or zones; thus, further enhancing reliability of your DNS service. In connection to this, SolidDNS™ 4.1.816 now has a server ID which it can use to respond to Name Server Identifier queries.
“We have integrated anycast technology support into SolidDNS™ 4.1.816 as was targeted in our comprehensive product roadmap in order to provide enterprises a reliable and secure solution for redundant or multiple systems,” says InfoWeapons’ CEO Luis Gopez.
The custom logging component, which accounts for most of the enhancements in this latest SolidDNS™ version, allows you to enable or disable logging of certain system events that you think are unnecessary. This version also lets you set the duration during which the appliance stores the records and deletes them automatically when the period expires. In addition, the tabs for DHCPv4, DHCPv6, DNS and other logs, which were introduced in the previous release, now have a download button to allow you to backup system logs outside the appliance.
This newest upgrade also features another migration tool, which makes it easier for administrators to replicate secondary zones from a BIND server by simply importing a standard Config file into the SolidDNS™ appliance. The appliance automatically recreates the secondary zones and overwrites those that are redundant while you watch a real-time status bar tracking the progress.
Furthermore, this updated version supports the use of the Intelligent Platform Management Interface (IPMI) card that comes as standard component of all S- and E-series appliances, and optional on X-series models. An IPMI allows an administrator to, among others, monitor hardware temperature, fan speed, voltage, power status, chassis intrusion as well as remotely power-on or reboot the appliance even if it is down, but connected to a power source.
The latest upgrade is available for free to those buying the appliance for the first time and to existing customers with unexpired Annual Protection Plans.
