DHS Identifies DNS Risks and Risk-Reduction Strategies
The domain name system (DNS), as a core aspect of the Internet, is prone to three major risks according to an assessment report released by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). Large scale denial of service attacks, information disclosure and loss of privacy, and policy failure have been identified as the three risks in the report. To address these risks, DHS recommends educating and training concerned individuals, and adopting established Internet security standards. The report also offers practical advice on managing and reducing the three major risks. The aim of this report is to help protect the Internet from attacks and ensuring that any network can easily recover if and when disaster strikes.
