Aussie Domain Administrator Targets 2012 Rollout for DNSSEC

Now that VeriSign has enabled DNSSEC on the 'dotcom' domain, the administrator of Australia's country top-level domain '.au' is strongly considering it as well.

According to a report by ZDNet, .au Domain Administration Ltd. will most likely follow VeriSign in a year's time, adding it is now in the final stages of testing DNSSEC.

The big question mark, however, is how keen are the domain registrars in Australia to adopt the Internet security standard. The report quoted the chief strategist of Melbourne IT, who told ZDNet there is "very little use of DNSSEC."

Another obstacle is the inconvenient sign-up method. At the moment, website owners have to ring registrars and can't just opt-in online. You can read the full ZDNet story here.
